Well well well, The King is yet again the biggest chest piece left in free agency. Lebron James is the next major domino in the NBA, that teams are waiting to fall. Though he will turn 42 next season, Lebron James still has the league at his fingertips and holds a very big decision ahead. I decided to pick out the five teams I feel like have somewhat of a shot to sign Lebron, and give a little pitch about each team with Lebron on their roster. Each team will get a title contender grade out of ten, as well as an entertainment grade out of ten. The title contender is simple, what are the odds they can win it all, and for the entertainment side, it’s purely based on how much I would enjoy watching him on that team. Shoutout to the man still doing it at his age, hard to imagine he actually gets #5, but him being able to still play a valuable role on a contender is more than enough for me to enjoy.
#1 – Cleveland Cavaliers
The first team here in my opinion holds the best chance to sign Lebron. It would not get any better than this, getting to see the king end it where he started would be electric. Cleveland fans would eat it up, and the atmosphere in those arenas would be insane. When the Lakers played the Cavs last year, and Bronny scored his first bucket in Cleveland, that place blew up. If I’m a 41 year old Lebron in that moment, it would just all hit me. Like all these people love me and the family so damn much, how could I not give these people what they want? The only reason for that would be James Harden. I know there would not be too much excitement from Lebron’s end and my end, having to watch James Harden dribble the air out of the basketball. He is a legend, no disrespect, but at this stage, with his playstyle and need for the basketball to be effective, I just hate the fit with any team in general. To be honest us Bron fans would treat that dude like Russ 2.0. But nevertheless, the team did just make it to conference finals, and the addition of a player like Lebron James would undoubtedly get them closer to getting over the hump.
Contender Grade: 8/10
Would be one of his best chances to at least get back to the finals, don’t think this puts them over the Knicks, but ya never know with the King.
Entertainment Grade: 8/10
It would be electric to see him back in Cleveland, and that environment would be so dope to watch. Would be cool with me, only drawback and reason for it not being a 10/10 is purely James Harden.
#2 – Golden State Warriors
The Second team here would be my absolute favorite watch. Getting to see an Olympics part 2, with Steph and Lebron running together would be absolute cinema to see as they both ride their careers out together. The duo of Lebron and Steph would be unstoppable at times, with Lebron hitting Steph right in the shooting pocket every time he comes running off one of his screens would be beautiful basketball. I would be tuned into every game taking it all in. The negative of this though would be the contending aspect. Though Jimmy Butler was hurt, the Warriors last year were only 35-47 in a tough western conference. So having the unction come together with Steph, Bron, Jimmy, Dray and Kristaps would be cool to watch, their health and stamina to keep up with these young bucks in the league would be the tough part. The group would no doubt feel rejuvenated by the addition of Lebron, and definitely be a tough team to beat mentally. The championship DNA would play when it matters the most. I would approve of this move from King, as it would be weird being a Warriors fan after all these years, it would absolutely be must see TV.
Contender Grade: 7/10
It would be tough to make it out of the West at this stage of their careers, but my buddy said it best, give me Lebron and Steph in a seven game series vs anybody.
Entertainment Grade: 10/10
I mean, this would be the coolest shit. Everything about Lebron and Steph together would immediately make them the most followed team in the league, move over Wemby.
#3 – Miami Heat
Miami is one that is really really interesting to me. If Lebron were to go back to Miami, he would most certainly have to make it a two year plan. The addition of Giannis for Miami is massive, but the downfall of it was the gutting of their roster. I think Miami will need a couple transaction periods (Trade Deadline and another offseason) before they will really be ready to go against the best teams in the East. With that being said, If you were to tell me a team has Lebron, Giannis, and Bam, I would think they have a shot vs anyone. But recently in the league, we’ve seen how important depth and role players have become in the league, and at times make big differences down the stretch of games. Giannis and Lebron together would just be so dominant at times as well, it would be real cool to see in South Beach. Though I don’t think Lebron goes back to Miami, I wouldn’t fault the man for wanting to go back to the nice weather and year round golf of Florida.
Contender Grade: 6/10
Like I said I do think Miami is some depth and role players away, and the East has just filled out so much recently, it would just be tough to think they can win it.
Entertainment Grade: 7/10
There would be some crazy games out of the new Miami Big 3, but we would have to watch a lot of bums fill into role players spots throughout the season. No 2021 Lakers again.
#4 – Minnesota Timberwolves
Ant Man would be the main reason for this happening. I mean joining forces with Anthony Edwards as he heads into his age 25 season would not be a bad business move for Lebron if he is looking for ring #5. Besides Ant Man, Lebron would actually be a perfect fit on this roster. They have a clear need for a power forward after trading away both Julius Randle to Nets, and Naz Reid to the Hornets. Lebron can slide in perfectly to a lineup of newly added Lamelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert. They also have Chicago’s very own Ayo Dosunmu still, as well as some longer pieces they are hoping for growth in Terreance Shannon Jr and Joan Beringer. This would be dope to watch and see Lebron still a part of a dominant team who would have a chance at winning a title, but definitely would be seen as a total ring chase move.
Contender Grade: 10/10
This would be holy grail for Lebron in terms of contending, he would slide in perfectly to a team that has been stuck trying to get over the hump for years.
Entertainment Grade: 9/10
Lebron Together with Ant Man and Lamelo Ball, would lead to some electric oops and highlights plays all day, as Anthony Edwards talks trash to everyone, would be real cool.
#5 – Philadelphia 76ers
Seems like the most talked about team in the league recently, as they were able to somehow turn Paul George’s miserable contract into an All NBA player in Jaylen Brown. Philly fans are feeling really good with this addition and have been already letting Boston fans hear it. With that being said, can you imagine how wild they would be if they got Lebron James. I mean, they would be all over the streets talking their shit. It would kind of be another perfect fit as well. Philly is now running out a lineup of Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecomb, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid with a clear need at the power forward position. Lebron would slide right into the lineup, and immediately give them a super team feel at the starting lineup. The downsides of Philly is their bench, with really only having two guys with the additions of Dean Wade who probably starts if no Lebron, and their first round pick of Labaron Philon Jr (Dog). Playing alongside Jaylen Brown would maybe be a goofy fit with Lebron, but Lebron can play with anyone so they would be good. I wouldn’t love cheering for Philly but with that being said, they could make a run at the title, if they make some moves at the deadline. So if Lebron chooses here, I’ll rock with it.
Contender Grade: 9/10
The starting lineup would be a literal super team, so come playoff time, could see them being really tough to beat. That bench will be the only question.
Entertainment Grade: 8/10
All the talent on the floor would make it enjoyable to watch as a basketball head, but like I said early, I just don’t love Philly so would be a little weird to root for.
